Congratulations . . . you did it! And belieave me,
your friends, teachers, parents, and in some cases
wives or husbands are mighty proud of you.
I sometimes think back to some of my graduations
and reminisce about what i learned, and it seems
that the most important things were not just the
skills to perform technical tasks, but the ability to
think through problems and plan quality solutions.
You have probably already forgotten a great deal of
the facts you had to learn, but the thinking skills will
stick forever.
Now you are ready to go out into the market place
and join the thousands of other successful Stock-
bridge graduates in rewarding careers. I ask just one
favor - don't forget us. Keep in touch by responding
to alumni questionnaires and join us at alumni ac-
tivities throughout the year. You are now part of the
most loyal and supportive alumni group at the Uni-
versity of Massachusetts.
Again — congratulations on your achievement.
Harry L. Mosher, Director
Dr. Francis W. Holmes was born on May
21, 1929 in Yonkers, NY. In his career as a
student he received his PhD. in Plant Pa-
thology from Cornell University in 1954.
From 1954-1962 Frances Holmes was an
assistant professor at the University of
Massachusetts Shade Tree Laboratories. He
became a professor in 1970 and carried on
until the fall of 1989. In 1973 he became
the director of the Shade Tree Laboratory.
For all the hard work for the students
and the Shade Tree Laboratories we ded-
icate our yearbook to Dr. Frances W.
Holmes.
Sincerely,
The Class of 1990
Last spring we were deeply saddened by the sudden loss
of Dr. Rosenau. He was a very dedicated and well respected
Professor. We have been very fortunate to have had him as
an instructor and friend. His views about the world, shared
by way of philosophical interludes, and his conclusions with
a sunset were enjoyed by us all. He is dearly missed but not
forgotten.

The Stockbridge Class of 1990
would like to thank the secretaries of
Stockbridge Hall for their time and
dedication to the students of Stock-
bridge. The last two years at Stock-
bridge would have been very difficult
without the help of these two ladies.

EDITOR'S NOTE
The 1990 Stockbridge Yearbook was put together by Jim Anspach, Kim Sanderson,
Michael Turner, Jennifer Leighton, Mark Barsch, Christine Slinko, Michelle Hardy,
and myself. A fabulous crew, without them there would be no yearbook.
Together we learned patience, management, time budgeting, and Murphy's Law.
I would like to thank our fellow students and faculty for cooperating with us for
this book.
We hope you will enjoy this book and the memories you had at Stockbridge.
Good luck in the future,
Craig Greco, Yearbook Editor in Chief
